Lahaina’s Comeback Story: Rebuilding Maui Through Hospitality

In a recent Matador Network feature on Maui’s fire recovery, the article highlights something locals have felt in their bones since August 8, 2023: Lahaina isn’t just rebuilding physical structures, it’s rebuilding connection. The piece shares how restaurants have become the front lines of recovery, serving not only meals but hope, jobs, and a sense of normalcy for a community still healing.

When Coco Deck opened in September 2024, it was with that exact intention. Many of our team members were directly impacted by the fires, including more than 100 employees across Hana Hou Hospitality who lost their homes. Reopening wasn’t about bouncing back. It was about showing up for each other and creating a place where life could start to feel familiar again.

The Matador Network article reminds readers that returning visitors are playing a meaningful role in Maui’s recovery. Every reservation, every drink shared, every dinner out helps fuel the island’s rebuilding efforts. Tourism here is no longer just about travel, but also about solidarity.

Today, Front Street is slowly finding its rhythm again. Families are reconnecting, friends are gathering, and new memories are being made over shared plates and ocean breezes. Locals continue to welcome guests with aloha, asking only for care, respect, and understanding for this place we all love.

Whether you’re joining us for dinner, stopping in for a drink, or simply soaking up the view, mahalo for being part of Lahaina’s next chapter. We are grateful to walk this path with our community and look forward to welcoming you at Coco Deck.
